In one of the Egyptian villages there was a thief working in secret every night, and one day while he was tucked on one of the roofs of the village houses, he heard a husband telling his wife to be economical in her use of garlic, as its price was very high, and he would not be able to buy it anymore; The wife, in turn, decided to use garlic as much as was available and not to waste it in consideration of her husband’s circumstances.
في إحدى القرى المصرية كان هناك لصا يعمل في الخفاء في كل ليلة، وفي يوم من الأيام بينما كان مدسوسا على أحد أسطح بيوت القرية سمع زوجا يخبر زوجته بأن تقتصد في استخدامها للثوم إذ أن سعره ارتفع للغاية، ولن يقوى على شرائه بعد الآن؛ والزوجة بدورها قررت أن تستخدم الثوم على قدر المتاح وألا تسرف فيه مراعاة لظروف زوجها.
From here, the thief came up with a very infernal idea, he decided to steal a little something from every house in the village and to work on stealing garlic from every house in an amount so that he would not reveal his matter to the villagers, and thus he could have abundant money through which he could start his own trade.
ومن هنا خطرت للص فكرة جهنمية للغاية، قرر أن يتكر سرقة شيئا يسيرا من كل بيت بالقرية وأن يعمل على سرقة الثوم من كل منزل بقدر بحيث لا يكشف أمره لأهل القرية، وبذلك يمكنه أن يمتلك مالا وفيرا يمكنه من خلاله بدء تجارته الخاصة.
Indeed, the thief entered the village houses, and from every house he took a sack full of garlic, and the people of the village began to live in anxiety, as the thief came every day and no one knew about him.
وبالفعل عهد اللص لمنازل القرية ومن كل منزل أخذ جوالا مليئا بالثوم، وأهل القرية صاروا يعيشون في قلق، فالسارق يأتي كل يوم ولم يعلم بأمره أحد.
As for the thief, he decided to rent a house in the neighboring village and put the stolen garlic in it so that he and his theft would not be revealed to the people of his village. There was nothing left of his plan but to steal one house, and in that house was a little boy who was very intelligent. They had a dog, so the little one decided to put the dog in the house and leave it unrestrained every night so that his family could sleep reassured because of the thief.
أما عن السارق فقرر استئجار منزل بالقرية المجاورة ووضع الثوم المسروق فيه حتى لا يكشف أمره وأمر سرقته لأهل قريته؛ ولم يتبقى على خطته سوى سرقة منزل واحد وكان في ذلك المنزل ولد صغير يتسم بالذكاء الشديد، كان لديهم كلب فقرر الصغير أن يضع الكلب في المنزل ويتركه بلا قيد في كل ليلة حتى ينام أهله مطمئنين بسبب السارق.
Indeed, as soon as I stepped on the thief’s foot, the dog started barking and running after him and chasing him until he was able to bite him and catch him. Here, all the villagers learned about the thief and discovered his identity, and they quickly called for help, and with their help they were able to reach the place of the stolen garlic and the right was returned to its owners.
وبالفعل ما إن وطئت قدم السارق حتى بدء الكلب في النباح والركض خلفه ومطاردته حتى تمكن من عضه والإمساك به، وهنا علم كل أهل القرية بأمر السارق واكتشفوا هويته، وسارعوا بطلب رجال النجدة، وبمساعدتهم تمكنوا من الوصول لمكان الثوم المسروق وعاد الحق لأصحابه.
The thief received the punishment he deserved, and as for the little boy, the villagers rewarded him for his intelligence and good behaviour.
نال السارق العقاب الذي يستحق، أما عن الصغير فقد كافئه أهل القرية لذكائه وحسن تصرفه.
